Day 5: Saturday: Cambria

Today was a designated rest day, no itinerary at all...just hanging around a quiet town. We slept in and had a late buffet breakfast. Josh watched TV for a little bit while I watched a wedding, one of three that happened on the grounds during our stay.

After a while we headed into town looking for the Cambria Capuccino Internet Cafe, because the Internet in our room didn't work and our cell phones could only find signal every once in a while. Josh blogged a little and caught up on email...

...while I wandered through the shops of the West Side of town, talking to quite a few of the shopkeepers. There is a great deal of confusion about how the name of the town in pronounced, with a short A or a long A, but Marjorie at the Chamber of Commerce, a former schoolteacher, assured me that it is with a short A--CAMbria--after the Latin for Wales. Either way, the shops lining Main Street were just lovely.

Then we headed over to Moonstone Beach, a wild beach with a boardwalk and lookout points.

Had lunch at the Moonstone Beach Bar & Grill right across the road from the beach, with a great view of the ocean. And yes, that's our ride parked there.

After lunch we went exploring the other end of the beach...

...then drove through a neighborhood of $1+ million homes to get to another trailhead over some bluffs.

The scenery was just spectacular, and even Josh slowed down enough to enjoy it.

The homes in the area were just gorgeous, perched on the bluffs and cliffs with winding stairs down to the rocks or beach.

We went back to town and spent some time on the East Side, then back to the hotel for a late dinner outside by a fireplace.

Finally, back in our room where Josh actually did some of his summer reading for school. A pretty full day for a rest day...one of our nicest days here.
